Food, aroma, history and music … the largest Roman monument left in Africa at the El Jem amphitheatre is just over an hour away. Visit the last 29th-century Aghlabite Basins which were among the greatest waterworks of the Middle Ages and learn about the Kairouan golden age. It dates to about the year 670, and for Muslims, it is a special place; 7 trips here are said to equal one hajj to Mecca.
You can travel to the other port, Tunis and see Carthage and Sidi Bou, but you are so much nearer to Kairouan it is worth considering a trip there.

As one person’s meat is another one’s poison, by looking at the film you might discount some places, and decide on another. Cathedral, museum, gardens, town walk …… or beach.
