Heath Thorne, a moderator on our Doris Visits VENTURA chat site spent the festive season on the Ventura. We embarked the Ventura on the 5th, in the hope to have a much-needed pre-Christmas festive cruise to Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar.
As soon as we stepped onboard, we were greeted by the beautifully decorated atrium with various Christmas songs in the background.
During our first day on board, we explored the ship to find our bearings and we once again were greeted by many Christmas trees and various decorations at every step of the way. At that point, we did feel festive which was elevated by the great atmosphere on board as we were about to embark on our voyage.
During the voyage, P&O hosted two Christmas-themed days under the title of “Step into Christmas” these days were wonderful, and we felt very festive, the daily programme reflected the festive theme and included festive quizzes, a Christmas-themed theatre show “Deck the Halls” and a Christmas music set by the resident band “Pulse”. The days were finished with a Christmas-themed menu, naturally, a Turkey dinner was on offer followed by a traditional Sherry trifle. Ventura was only sailing with 1100 passengers on board meaning that the ship was very quiet overall as the usual operating capacity for Ventura is 3078 however this didn’t have an impact on the overall mood and the ship.

The service was simply phenomenal, the crew really got to know us and our preferences which usually wouldn’t be possible on a ship of Ventura’s size.

The food was just wonderful in the Main Dining Room as well as in the Epicurean and the buffet, unfortunately, the same could not be said for the Beach House. We had booked this cruise after having our Christmas cruise on Balmoral cancelled and we can honestly say that all of our expectations were exceeded and P&O delivered their usual high-quality experience.
Our thanks to Heath Thorne. The Ventura is a modified Grand Class ship, sister to the Azura. Whilst the same, the differences make each unique, and each has its own fan base and a separate chat group hosted by Cruise Doris Visits on Facebook. Ventura current Global/Map position and details.
