Charlotte Amalie, the jungle surrounded port on the small US Virgin Island is one of the most picture-postcard perfect harbours in one of the prettiest Caribbean Islands. It is good to see their cruise calendar full again having recovered enough from the storms of 2017. Paradise Point Tramway is a cable car ride that takes you up 700 feet to give amazing views, local folklore suggests that Blackbeard’s Castle was actually used as a lookout post by the infamous pirate. We like a good story and as little of history is accurate we can go with that; you’ll see pirate statues and a Jolly Roger flag at the old waterside watchtower. The harbour offers boat trips from leisurely diving and sunbathing to Water Island and Hassel Island which are both in the mouth of the harbour. The ruins of the British fortresses, some other unspoilt beaches and the abandoned US military base are split between the two. You are spoilt for choice here and there are more tours we list below. It is a very buzzing place with cosmopolitan bars and boasts duty-free shopping and like many Caribbean Islands will have fantastic jewellery. The beaches are great and the local bus to the beach is just $2 to Coki Beach or Sapphire beach, we show you where the bus stop is.
