Since Mamma Mia! Skopelos has become a go-to place to have a wedding. I guess a karaoke wedding LOL. Since it was filmed in 2008, the small island of Skopelos, one of a group of Greek islands in the northwest Aegean Sea, has become famous. If only cruise ships could get there! The best known of the group are Alonnisos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros. Now, in the church of Agios Ioannis perched on a rock above the sea and the beautiful Kastani Beach (now known as “the Mamma Mia beach”) are just two locations in Skopelos that have become huge attractions.
Alonnisos is at the centre of a protected marine park that is home to much sea life including dolphins and Mediterranean monk seals.
The main way to get there is by ferry from the mainland ports of Volos and Agios Constantinos, in central Greece. They go to Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos. Star Clippers, Seabourn, SeaDream Yacht Club and Hapag Llyod do sail and stop there. As a cruiser, you are more likely to get to the Mamma Mia! museum in Stockholm.

You may have seen cruise thriller author & movie maker Stuart St Paul – click here on a ship giving an after-dinner speech or a talk with a book signing. Crime novels are a whole new experience. You may not have been to the ports in the novels, you certainly won’t have been to the parts of the ship they use but they take you there. Stuart’s page is here. The cheapest way to buy his cruise thrillers is the KINDLE BOX SET, all six cruise thrillers for the price of two.
