In 1502 Columbus established a dwelling at this port and it has grown, but it was not until 1870 a real harbour was established in order to export bananas, nuts and grains. Now it has a vibrant town with a palm lined promenade, cafes and open an air market. Local wine and fruit are as important as the handicrafts. A boat trip on a Panga (power boat) along the coast will allow you the chance to see birds, fish, alligators and turtles and bats. This a place where a walk around. Limón is gateway to Rainforest Aerial Tram ride through the canopy of a 1,000-acre nature reserve or a jungle boat trip. You could also Tarzan-style the canopy on a series of horizontal traverse cables or visit multi-coloured butterflies and birds fly in this living, breathing forest.
