P&O Ventura – Caribbean & USA – tips on the ports & how it works

No-fly Caribbean and USA – yes, that is exactly what the P&O Ventura offers twice a year. Leaving Southampton, the Ventura crosses the Atlantic and does a 35 night cruise to remember. We remember it. We show you the ship and some of the ports (though these do change). What this very special cruise does is give you a few days to enjoy the ship, then explores an eclectic mix of islands and main land ports, from Mexico to New Orleans. From Island to Island.

Many dream of a world cruise, but at around 100 nights it is quite a leap from a short holiday on a ship. The 35 night cruise is a leap that many take first, then do over and over again. The first one leaves in the first few days of the new year, the second one late February. They are different.

One is more adventurous, goes further, therefore has fewer ports but they are exciting. New Orleans to Honduras. The second 35 night cruise is mostly Caribbean Islands, exciting for different reasons. They appear to swap these each year, so check the itineraries. They do not use the same ports, so you can do both or one one year and the other the next. These cruises do sell out early.

FIRST LONGER CRUISE?

Pass your bags to the crew at Southampton and you should be on the ship almost as quick as your luggage. You cabin staff become friends, they will be with you for 35 nights. The people you meet will become friends. The ship will become a second home very fast. Staying on a ship is a very different experience to the on off short holiday cruise, and you will be addicted. We are hear to help with a chat site that sees 200 new cruisers join a week, and many will want to know about these longer experiences so please post pictures, experience, and explain the difference. We produce cruise crime thrillers for your holiday reading, load the Kindle up before you go, but they are on Apple Books, Google Play, and Amazon as paperback, audiobook, and Kindle. They become more real on these cruises.

CRUISES by NUMBER and date, with ports and links

The Ventura is a no-fly ship. Not that any ship can fly, but let’s not give Disney an idea. The short cruises are up to a week, and the longer two week cruises go as far as the Canary Islands. They normally alternate so that you can book two together and make a longer cruise. Joining two cruises together is known as a ‘Back to Back’. All P&O ships have names that end in the letter ‘A’, just as all Fred Olsen ships start with the letter ‘B’. All Ventura cruises have a number starting with N. (Cunard’s Queen Victoria has the letter V in its cruise number).

What to pack? Dress code?

A longer cruise does not need to mean more clothes. The laundry comes into play, the sea days become more fun, and the formal nights seem grander. Most cruisers do dress for these nights, although with a longer cruise you might just want a night off.

But, we suggest you pack something that allows you to use the whole of the ship you have paid to enjoy because you will make friends to eat and drink with.  Ladies take an over shoulder wrap for the theatre or lounge if the air conditioning is on. Our full; dress and packing tips are Here
