Finally, the last Cruise Doris Visits tip, it is a public train, and no number of cruisers will make it wait. Two whole coach loads from our ship missed it, my coach – well hustled, get there. The 26-mile Ofoten Railway, at the time of construction, was both the coldest and northern-most railway project in the world, carved out of the mountains. The tunnels that protect it from the snow, also mean they are warm homes for deer, so they have had to add devices to frighten the deer away. Ensure to look out for the Norwegian and Swedish flags painted on the tunnel wall, marking the border between the 2 countries, between the EU and Norway. What border? Your guide will no doubt tell of stories of how they go across the board to shop at weekends as it is cheaper in Sweden. The deer were seen on the right-hand side of the coach on return.
