There are different grades of crew room, but most are pretty basic, and below heads of department and officers you will probably have to share. They are are lower in the ship, nearer or near to engines or generators, and also loading areas where day and night trucks move food, toiletries and essential supplies from store to floors that use them. So, as a crew member you learn to sleep with noise.
Crew shifts can be long. Many are on variations of 6 month to a year contracts. Stage artists often have to audition at the start of each year to get a job back on stage at sea. They will be down in crew quarters too.
Is there a safe – yes, you get your own safe in many ships.
Do you share – yes Is the bathroom small – yes.
Can crew get off at ports – on some days. If they have a day off yes, if they work the morning, you see them dash out early afternoon. Does the ship wait if they are late back – No ! Take a look round with Michelle.
