Mahé is the largest island of Seychelles where about 80% of the population lives.
The capital Victoria is the smallest capital city in Africa, which does not take long to see. The Victoria Clock Tower, Sir Selwyn-Clarke Market, Seychelles Natural History Museum, the local art gallery and historic buildings, such as the Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple. Taxis are easy to get, but not cheap.
Seychelles was once believed to be the original Garden of Eden. Rare and exceptional species of plants and flowers flourish here and can be seen at Seychelles Botanical Garden in Victoria or Le Jardin du Roi Spice Garden in Anse Royale.
The Takamaka rum distillery at Le Plaine St André was built by brothers Richard and Bernard d’Offay in 2002 and is found on a historic plantation estate that uses island-grown sugarcane. Distillery and Garden Tours with a Rum Tasting cost from EUR 16 per person.
The Seychelles Tea Factory enjoys splendid panoramic views of the western slopes of Mahé with tours demonstrating the tea-making process, from drying to packing. Factory Tours: from EUR 1.50 per person
