We could have asked Jean to do this film while in Liverpool, but this great 23-minute film of the Beatles Liverpool by Paul McCartney does it all. He visits his old house for the first time since a kid. We decided to feature his tour. He makes more of an impression walking into the barbers in Penny Lane than Jean would. Now the Blue Bus route also does this very well, and if you are there you are unlikely to get the help of one of the Fab Four, but you will get a commentary on the bus. Liverpool was the original cruise centre of the UK.
The Beatles story continues in Hamburg. See our own tour of Hamburg by Jean Heard, and the Town Hall Tour and Miniatur Wunderland. Plus an incredible find, a coffee shop that has a mini coffee bean roasting factory active for visitors to watch.
The Blue Bus route – Start point Gower Street on the Royal Albert Dock, it does go to the cruise terminal but might be full by then on a busy day. The tours are in English only at the moment.
See the city’s historic two Cathedrals on Hope Street before you head out to the leafy suburbs of south Liverpool – home of the Fab Four. Stops include Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, you can get off the bus and take photographs. Then onto the childhood home of John Lennon (where the bus stops outside), then drive past Paul McCartney‘s home. But let Paul show you here, then see Jean deliver the tour of the Cavern, The Beatles Story and Liverpool’s Albert Docks and Museum. Paul does not take you into the Cavern, but Jean does. That is not on the Blue bus but the Red bus (stop 5). You can walk to it (using the bus map) from the Cruise terminal. Entry to the Cavern is £2.50 and what a great time to be had there. Bands on all day. See below.
