La Digue is the quiet, sleepy sibling to larger Seychelles islands Mahé and Praslin. An almost motor-free island, expect to go to most places by local boat, and these will normally be beaches such as Anse Source d’Argent and Grand Anse. You can walk to most spots on the island in around an hour. The oxcart is the island’s traditional transport now a tourist attraction. La Digue was named after the ship on which French naval officer Marc-Joseph Marion Fresne arrived in the Seychelles in 1768. The island is almost entirely surrounded by a coral reef, so it is possible to swim or snorkel but on the eastern side of the island the currents are strong and warning signs must be taken seriously.

We list these not to sell you the tours, though Get Your Guide do have many excellent private guides and tour options, but, reading through what the locals offer you at a destination, reveals what is there. Local tours (allow time to load) as shown by GET YOUR GUIDE. Always remember a ship tour offers the protection of waiting for the trip to return if it is running late.
