Kadriorg Palace looks like many of the opulent Russian Palaces around St Petersburg, and that is because it was built for Catherine I of Russia by Peter the Great in Tallinn, Estonia. The Petrine Baroque palace was started in 1718, and sits at the back of the old walled city of Tallinn and it glows on a sunny day. It was built after the great Northern War and currently houses an art museum. Kadriorg Palace is the crown jewel of Tallinn and worth the visit. It is also surrounded by a vast beautiful and relaxing garden, with fountains, hedges and flowerbeds. It was modelled on the garden in Versailles, erected on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. Between 1828 and 1830 Emperor Nicholas I made extensive changes to the Palace and gardens making them even more special. It was now a summer house for Russian rulers and dignitaries as well as being used by the civil governors of Estonia. Following them, Tallinn became a trendy holiday spot for all. In 1917 the palace was seized by the Tallinn Soviet of Workers’ and Soldiers’ and by 1919 it belonged to the Republic of Estonia.
Find your ship’s chat site + share your pictures + experiences to help others The old town is around ten minutes walk from where the many ships dock. As you will see from our old town walking film, this is a very popular cruise stop. The walk to the Palace, which was opened as an art museum in 2000 after help from Sweden, will take longer because there is much to attract your attention on the way there.
Amongst the permanent exhibitions are paintings from the 16th–18th century, including Dutch, German, Italian and Russian masters. There is also western European and Russian applied art and sculpture from the 18th–20th century. The building itself, and the gardens are worth the ticket.
We will be filming the palace in July 2018, so until then our older Tallinn film sits here.

QUESTION: If I travel and I am more than 24 weeks pregnant am I technically un-insured and liable for all the bills?
ANSWER: Check with your insurance company and lawyer before you travel, but it appears all the companies say no travel.
