Unless the weather is very bad, the guards change each day at the palace. The palace, as visitors will know is very open so the guards march through the crowd. If you want a close-up, this video shows the route around the square and will help you choose where you are going to stand. The Danish Royal Guard march from Rosenborg Castle to Amalienborg Palace where the Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place. The ceremony takes place daily with the guard leaving Rosenborg Castle at 11:30 to arrive at Amalienborg Palace for the ceremony at 12:00. They enter the square from the huge church end, then change the guards at every door. This means the criss-cross the square a number of times and there are more than a few chances to get a good picture up close and personal.
