Brisbane, capital of Queensland, is a large city on the Brisbane River. Swimming and surfing are on the to-do lists but there is also the Queensland Museum and Sciencentre, the State Art Gallery, which features many Aboriginal works and the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art for those who don’t want to get wet. Or for those who like to walk in gardens, go up to Mt. Coot-tha, the site of Brisbane Botanic Gardens. The best shopping can be found at Fortitude Valley which is full of independent stores and is regarded as Brisbane’s best shopping precinct. Along James Street, you’ll find more than 130 speciality stores or there is the Myer Centre complex on Queen Street.
We do not have a film on Brisbane yet but we do have 5 films on Sydney.
The adventurous can climb Brisbane’s Story Bridge and admire panoramic views across the city, north to the Glasshouse Mountains. Those seeking sun and sand might take a 70-minute ferry ride to say Moreton Island, just one of the idyllic islands off the coast.
Public transport
To use public transport including buses, trains, and ferries in Brisbane, it’s recommended that you purchase a TransLink Go Card. You can purchase a Go Card for a $10 deposit at the Airtrain ticket booth at Brisbane Airport, or from convenience stores and train stations throughout the city. The deposit is refundable, so when you have finished exploring the city you can request a refund. Initially, you’ll need to load the Go Card with some money to cover your fares, which you can do at convenience stores and train stations. For travel within the city, fares should be between $2.60 – $4.00 per ride. To start your ride, tap your card on the reader when you board your selected mode of transport and be sure to tap off when you disembark. The Go Card is available to use on the TransLink network throughout southeast Queensland, and includes services from Brisbane to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast.
