Which is the best zip line we have done? and the winner is …..
We start by saying check the kit and wire before you step on. anywhere. Ask. Look.
1. Batoka Gorge Zip-line. Is not a little zip line. 135m across the canyon just up from Victoria Falls. 75m above the ground. You run and jump. You accelerate to speeds of between 90-100km/hr in a couple of seconds because of the drop, caused by the sag in the huge cable. You slow down as it goes up the other side. This is one huge gorge, you take a serious leap of faith, but they claim a 100% safety with over 17 years. You can do it lying out like superman or sitting up like granny. Here actress Laura Aikman who plays #DyanCannon in #Archie jumps off the Batik Gorge in Zambia near the falls, with her father, stuntman Stuart St Paul.
They offer this to quite young children, but when they jump you can’t just get them back if they don’t like it. Check, but from as young as 4 year olds can participate on this Victoria Falls adventure. Interested in the Zambezi, see our Sunset River Trip
Watch the film, research the tours
and get to know this wonderful island before you go.
2 – Batoka Gorge Swing – This is a serious drop. Drop over 70m in free fall and reach speeds of up to 180k/hr in a few seconds. The world’s first commercial Gorge Swing operation. This is a must do pitt stop on your Victoria Falls adventure, if only to watch. Watching is as heart stopping adrenalin fix. The Gorge Swing claims a 100% safety record. This is not a bungee, it is a drop on a cable to a slack cable over the gorge. Very clever, you will see how it works. A memorable highlight.
3. St Lucia Rain Forest Zip Line Canopy. The Adrena-line zip line tour is not for the faint of heart, you walk up through a peaceful part of the tropical rainforest, long way, and take a series of zips back down from platform to platform, like Tarzan would. We did this organised from the ship, wonderful day out. Lots of people offer the tour.
Then, as Nat King Cole said, buckle up and fly right… You get hitched and jump. Zip, jump, walk, hitch, zip, jump, fly, walk jump…. it will juice up before you the last thrill to base camp. Different packages include different zips and swings. There are 18 platforms, groups are kept small and the equipment is inspected and approved by ACCT (Association for Challenge Course Technology) and they have International Insurance. They state they have the ‘Highest ratings in Health & Safety’. See our film of all the whole of their adventures.
4. Amber Cove is a Cruise Resort in the Dominican Republic. It is owned by Carnival and run and staffed to high standards. The pools are free for cruisers and there are many other activities. The Zip line is one. For a fee you can have unlimited zip lining and as you are there for a day, it could be a good deal. The equipment is well kept and on display, and the harness and hard hat are checked before you jump off. The screams of those flying over head are heard all day. Don’t take anything up to the line that you could drop, you will not be able to fly with it as there are people below. It is the last in the film. See our film on AMBER COVE.
NOTE TO ALL – sensible shoes are manditory, you must be healthy, you mustn’t be pregnant. etc… see local terms and advice.
OK, so what is your best zip line? Post it onto your favourite cruise ship’s chat site here.
