Aranui 5 – a Polynesian Cruise Ship

The Aranui 5 cruise ship may not be one you know, but that will be the olympic athlete’s home in Tahiti.

They might enjoy themselves so much that they can’t master the famed TEAHUPO’O waves. More of that story here.

Many European cruisers may know of Hurtigruten Cruises who specialise in their knowledge of Norway and connect so many small islands by being a ferry ship, a postal service, and take on cruisers and afford them the luxury or a small ship. It is a very different way of cruising.

Now swap the snow for the sun, and you have Aranui Cruises, who for over 40 years have specialised in connecting the Polynesian islands.

The Aranui 5 is a mix of purpose ships, designed for frieght as well as offer all of comforts of a cruise liner. It may not surprise you that many cruise liners operate in part as a supply ship.

Aranui 5

Aranui 5 is classified as a small vessel so has no problem anchoring in Polynesia. That is where the operating cruise line specialise. The ship, Length: 126 m. Breadth: 22 m. Draught: 5.2 m, accommodates approximately 230 passengers in 103 cabins, with 8 different guest decks and a sky bar. The French Flag flying ship looks a dream, and has a mix of staterooms and ‘dormitories’ that sleep 4 or 8. There may be a fight over the one Presidential suit.

Passenger accommodations range from Premium exterior staterooms, of which more than 90% have a private balcony; to Standard exterior staterooms with a picture window or porthole; and Class C, shared dormitory style cabins with occupancy for four or eight people.

The ship is French. Aranui 5’s registry is France and thus sails under French pavilion. As such, she operates under the strictest building and safety guidelines, including the requirements of international SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations and the French Coast Guard (CCS).
