Aarhus is a cruise port you can walk to town from, it is almost across the road. You may be greeted by local folk musicians. It is getting more popular with more ships, and is so popular with those who live there that it is known as the city of smiles. It’s a cosmopolitan university with varied art in many galleries, bars and coffee shops in the old docks and Latin Quarter. Den Gamle By is a themed park or historic museum You travel back to various times. The first is before 1900, Danish market town in Hans Christian Andersen’s day. Cobblestone streets and timber buildings. There are over 75 meticulously reconstructed old houses, shops, workshops and windmills with characters in costume. There are also areas of the 1920’s and 1970’s. Children under 18 enter free. Their web site is here.
ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum was established in 1859 and is Denmark’s oldest art museum. It has interactive work and areas for children, the museum features various shows and in 2018 it includes pop art and Egyptian Art. Best to see their web site here.
Aarhus Cathedral is a 93 meter long building and can seats 1,200 people. Built in the 12th century, destroyed by fire in 1330, the current building was rebuilt in 1449 and has an interior worth seeing.
The Natural History Museum: or the Naturhistorisk Museum. It houses collections of stuffed and preserved animals and hominid skeletons from all over the world.
The Steno Museum is a science museum, it has many features and a special section on the development of medicine and a garden with 350 plants which can be used as a medicine. Visit their web site here.
