RIVER & CANAL CRUISING

River cruising is as popular as ocean cruising and with quite some cross over. With excursions as different as the pyramids of the Nile to the champagne cellars or the Marne, to the European cities of the Danube and ships that have atriums, dining rooms, and nightly entertainment… it is not just familiar, some may say it is cruising.

European River and Canal Cruises

The Danube is the second-longest river in Europe, flowing through much of Central and Southeastern Europe. It includes ports from the Black Forest into the Black Sea.

The Douro is the highest-flow river of the Iberian Peninsula. It rises near Duruelo de la Sierra in Soria Province, central Spain. It then flows through the northwest part of central Spain and into northern Portugal, where it is best known for the Douro River river cruises. They tend to be centred from the mouth of the river in Porto, the second-largest city in Portugal.

The Rhône is a major river in France and Switzerland. The river cruise goes through France’s gastronomic heartland taking you from Beaujolais and Burgundy to Provence.

The river itself starts in the Alps and flowing west and south through Lake Geneva and southeastern France before flowing into the Mediterranean Sea. At Arles, near its mouth, the river divides into the Great Rhône and the Little Rhône. It has canals and locks which you will not see on the river cruise. You will be busy with wine, food and sights.
