Jean braves the cold of Oslo to put together a great explanation of what is there. It is a very attractive city, the capital of Norway but in December it was -7degrees. Oslo is in Norway, but it sits facing the Baltic. That means it is a confused port, it is not really on a Fjords cruise, and not often added to a Baltic cruise. Throughout history, however, it has been a major trading port and a base for Norway to conquer. It was the land of the Vikings. It is the other side of Norway. It is also expensive – take a look at Jean’s film.
We place Oslo in our Baltic section, though on the main destinations page under Norway. If you get the chance, do see this very special city. If you find it on a Christmas Markets cruise, you will love their take on Christmas, see the Christmas markets film.
Between the two films, you get a great flavour of the city and how you might attack it from a ship on a day port stop. Some cruises do overnight here. It is an easy port to walk, to enjoy, and to see art and culture.
If you are off to the Baltic, then take a look at our Baltic selection, or look at the full destinations menu.
