Norwegian Spirit – gets into Mykonos when the Oceana does not – 29th April 201

Whilst the Norwegian Spirit is often found in the Bahamas, the Caribbean, or crossing the Atlantic we came across it in the Eastern Caribbean. Built in 1998, this ship was refurbished in 2017. We were on the Oceana, which is only slightly newer and was refurbished this year, so in size and age the ships appear similar. So it was to many passengers of the Oceana’s annoyance that it could not get into Mykonos because of winds gusting up to 45 knots but the Spirit did. So what is the difference?

Whilst the ships seem similar, the Spirit is capable of a greater maximum speed, suggesting, along with the fact that it managed to combat the wind and get in, that is has stronger thrust. That is different to power as power is generated to produce thrust. But it’s power is also greater with just under 60kw capacity to Oceana’s 46Kw according to data available.

The ship looks colourful and exciting as do all the NCL ships and has the Tivoli Pool, four outdoor hot tubs, and a kids area Buccaneer’s Wet and Wild. There are 14  dining options, 12 bars and lounges, the Maharaja’s Casino, the Stardust Theatre, and the Roman Spa & Fitness centre. She holds just over 2,000 guests with a slightly larger crew than the Oceana. Famous for the WHITE HOT PARTY ! While they offer a slightly more relaxed dress code, they still require smart casual and it is worth reading the dress code details. They explain the relaxed casual dining ‘help-yourself buffet and a variety of casual cafés, grills and on-the-go choices’. Don’t get caught out, pack pants and a shirt!
