Kalundborg, Denmark

Kalundborg is a charming town, founded around 1150 by historic war hero Esbern Snare, and is within easy access to some of the grandest Viking historic sites in Denmark.

It is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Denmark; a peek into the genuine Denmark. The friendly, warm hospitable people make the visit worthwhile. It is a place for meetings and a gateway town but there is no need to travel. The medieval town with narrow streets of houses around 500 years old, its local museum, art exhibitions, and the church is charming. Afternoon the local flea market may be open. Or take the children to BonBon Land, a large and fun amusement park. The natural beauty of the area is perfect for walking, hiking, biking or other outdoor activities.

A tour option may be – The Viking Museum Ship is just an hour away, and you can sail, actually row and sail, in the 1000-year-old original Viking ship. There are daily sailings. Then there is the museum.   Also near here the Royal Cathedral of Roskilde and the legendary Viking Castle ruins Trelleborg are normally on this excursion.

Copenhagen is a tour option for this port and if you are using this as a gateway to Copenhagen see our extensive Copenhagen Menu. COPENHAGEN
