Haugesund – a quick look around

We admit there is more to see in Haugesund than we have in this film, but not much more. The beauty is the area, the buildings on the waterfront, and the people.

This is a quiet peaceful Norwegian town, strategically situated perfectly between Stavanger and Bergen. This is a town to get up late and walk around and just enjoy it. If you are into crafts and sowing, then see the film. The workshop shown is in the traditional dress shop on the corner just down from the shuttle bus stop by the church.

It was quite amazing that as soon as we arrived, we went, ‘we’ve been here before’. It is an example of being flown in, hotel, work, fly out for we were involved in the shooting of the Brian Cox and Lauren Bacall movie Wide Blue Yonder. Haugesund is the home of the Norwegian Film Festival and is said to have the best shopping in Norway. We stopped for coffee and cookies, and they were great cookies and cheaper than many places in London.

North Haugesund is Haraldshaugen, four important monuments in Norwegian history; the burial mound, the stone cross, the church site, and the National Monument (Haraldsstøtta). The latter was unveiled in 1872 in commemoration of Harald Fairhair’s gathering of Norway into one kingdom and legend has it that he was buried here. However, history may be better served at Avaldsnes on the 209, or 210 bus.

Haugesund is a public bus journey from Avaldsnes, the oldest Viking royal throne. There you will find St Olave’s church and the newly found stone ruins of outhouses which have ties to Westminster Abbey. The Church went under covers late 2018 for extensive renovations and will re-appear a work of art but not until 2020. The museum there is worth a visit and groups may get shown the dig with the stone buildings that will become a medieval park. Bus 209, or 210 gets you there in a very short time and you can see St Olaves from the bridge it crosses. The bus driver will put you off at the right stop, then the site is 1 km uphill behind Nelly’s Cafe.

The Viking farm is shown in the film as are the rock findings and the museum and how to get there by bus. See the Avaldsnes film before you venture.

The cruise size luggage labels are a hot recommendation, the other items are fun.

Cruise Heist has more than rough seas to deal with. Most crew and guests are totally unaware of the goings-on in this great fiction thriller where South American money is smuggled aboard, and the ship gets very rocky. It hit the top of the Amazon Thriller>Heist chart on the 29th of August 2023. Please read the reviews, read, and then review yourself.
