Gerry and the Pacemakers had three number No 1 hits in 1963; How Do You Do It, I like It and the anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone. Those were the days when the bands had to sell records and we cherished them and the covers they came in. The covers may be a little wrinkled nowadays but they and we still know how to enjoy ourselves. Gerry is an entertainment legend and still has that huge smile – and so he should have. He went on to write Ferry Across The Mersey and Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying while working on the same circuit as The Beatles.
The Fortunes hit single Caroline became the theme tune of the pirate music station Radio Caroline which we all listened to on our new invention, the portable handheld transistor radio we hid under our pillows. Their hits included Here It Comes Again and You’ve Got Your Troubles.
The Merseybeats performed regularly in Liverpool’s Cavern Club with hits like I Think Of You, Wishin’ and Hopin’ and Lovely Loretta.

This is a trip down memory lane on the Saga Sapphire, that you may never be able to do again, and will regret if you let it pass by. Themed cruises are more and more popular, but this one is special.

Destinations are Copenhagen where they have one of the best free walking tours and one of the best ever cheese cake shops as featured in the dark romantic adventure novel set on a cruise ship in the Baltics, The Perfect Storm. Oslo, where the Oslo Ice Bar brings a whole new meaning to a drink on the rocks, if you are feeling young and daring again. In both Conhagen and Oslo there is an overnight allowing you the chance to really see the cities.

The third port destination is Aarhus, the 2017 European Capital of Culture. The Danish delight has an attractive waterfront and beautiful botanical gardens. Perhaps head to the ARoS Art Museum and walk through the rainbow-hued glass walkway on the rooftop or take a vintage train ride on the former Horsens-Silkeborg railway.
