Copenhagen Guide, Denmark’s Capital
Where the best tour is free !
Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid, not Disney’s
When arriving in Copenhagen many people hear about or want to see the Little Mermaid statue, but it is not near the old town and a bit of a trot from your cruise ship. Many tours don’t even include it, and many guides will tell you not to bother, but will point you in the right direction. My guess is you will want to see it. If so, take a look at our walk down from the cruise ship, to the statue, by the canals and into town and judge for yourself whether it is worth the walk.
Copenhagen Free Walking Tour
The Old Town has a number of free walks, you just tip the guide. Our film below takes you on the day time walk which has starting times around 10 and 11 in the morning, and they start outside the town hall. It is not a long walk but you may need to consider footwear, and a raincoat, see our tips. Take a look at our film as Doris joins Jarrad on the walk.
The are other Copenhagen Free Walking Tours. In the afternoon there is a walk round the Universities and art areas and late in the day they start a pub crawl. Be prepared for many weathers in one day, wear walking shoes and keep up. Having said that Jarrad’s oldest walker was a gentleman of 103, who at the end had a hot dog and beer.

SAIL AWAY & BRIDGE
Like most of the Baltics, Denmark is a collection of Islands, and the cruise away from the port is fantastic on deck either peacefully by yourself or joining the traditional sail away party. After dinner, there is one more impressive thing to see on the way in or out, and that is the huge Great Belt Bridge. See our blog on cruising under it in the midnight sun.
If you are thinking of a Baltic Cruise here (click) is a quick overview of a number of ports and cities. If you are worried how to choose which cruise, which ship and where to go, take a look at our how to choose a cruise blog. Why not have a look at the LATE DEALS over a coffee. Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter and share. Most cruise operators will offer the Baltic as a cruise.
